In 2020, amid countless other disruptions, the pandemic closed schools worldwide and forced millions of families to spend more time at home with their children. Once frowned upon, and even banned in some countries, homeschooling suddenly became the acceptable norm.

Remote learning via video conferencing and large amounts of homework attempted to fill the void and emulate classroom habits, but, indirectly, highlighted the strain experienced by students, teachers and parents in trying to conform to the school institution.

Back in the ‘70s, Roger Waters from Pink Floyd sang, "We don't need no education". So have our experiences over the last year served to confirm this? Do we really need education? What is education, anyway? And why do we automatically and exclusively associate it with the institution of the school? What does it mean to be uneducated?

In this documentary we will look for answers to these and other questions by following the lives of several families whose children are in regular state or private education, and others who are in some form of home education, be it individual tuition, home-schooling, unschooling, world-schooling or self-directed education.
